About Kristin M Roach
Hello! I’m an interdisciplinary artist. I completed my BFA at Northern Illinois University in painting with a minor in art history all the while working at the local yarn shop. I make my work using scientific data and cast-off/natural materials using traditional craft methods. My site-specific installations use contemporary technologies to create an immersive environment of sculpture, light, and sound that explore themes of decay and restoration.
My art and zines are internationally exhibited and collected and my book, Mend it Better, has been published worldwide. My most recent work, the Descrying Tapestry, was made possible in part by the Iowa Arts Council and National Endowment of the Arts and is touring Iowa conservation learning centers. On the daily you can find me at my brick and mortar shop — Little Woods Herbal where I share my passion for plants through art and tea.
Just returning from a residency at the Iowa Lakeside Lab, I’m overflowing with new ideas I can’t wait to share with you here on Substack.
